The Anna University of Chennai conducts many courses such as MBA, MCA, Master of Engineering (ME), Master of Technology (M.Tech), Master of Architecture, Master of Planning (M.Plan).
The Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test TANCET 2017 is conducted by the Anna University in Chennai every year. Anna University was established in 1978 on September the 4th. The university offers courses for higher education in engineering, technology, and allied sciences which are in relevance to the current changes in society. This University was formed by the alliance or bringing together of two well known educational institutions of technical studies in Madras.
The TANCET test is conducted for admission into Masters of Technology and Masters of Engineering postgraduate or post-diploma programs in many different colleges and universities in the state of Tamil Nadu. Applicants who have passed the GATE (Grade Aptitude Test for Engineering) are not required to apply for the TANCET exam for admission and can apply for these courses directly.
The Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test TANCET committee of the Anna College takes care of the admission process of various colleges and streams. Admissions are handled for Government Engineering Colleges, Government Aided Engineering Colleges, Arts and Science Colleges, Self Financing Colleges (this includes stand-alone educational institutions, arts & science colleges, engineering colleges), University Colleges or University Departments at the Anna University. These are all strictly for Masters of technology programs offered by these colleges/ universities/ institutions.
TANCET 2017 Eligibility Criteria
TANCET 2017 test requires students to have achieved a minimum of 45% in case of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and other reserved categories.
50% for open categories in the Graduate/ Bachelors Degree or Diploma or its respective equal from their educational institution in any of these courses. These courses are the ones which are associated with the TANCET test. These are:
Bachelor of Technology degree.
Bachelor of Engineering degree.
Bachelor of Pharmacy degree.
Bachelor of Science degree in a fishery, horticulture, agriculture or forestry.
Bachelor of architecture.
Three years of Bachelors of Science in IT and 2 years of Masters in the same.
Five years Masters of Science integrated course.
Three years of Masters in Computer Application or a late admission of the same after a degree in Bachelors of Computer Application or Bachelor of Science.
Applicants with a post graduate course in AIME of two years or a three-year diploma in the same are also qualified to apply as are holders of a degree of Masters in any relevant field of Arts or Science.
TANCET 2017 Exam Pattern
The exam question paper will have three sections.
The first two being compulsory with 30 questions each.
The third part will be according to the subject chosen by the applicant.
This part will have 40 questions. For all three parts, correct answers carry a positive 1 mark and incorrect answers will result in negative 1/3 mark.
The applications can be done online or at application coordination centers which will be announced soon. The Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test will be conducted in May 2017 and the results of the same are said to be declared in June.
